OPENING PSALM OF PRAISE AND THANKS

[℣] (Psalm 103:1-5) With all my heart I praise the Lord, and with all that I am I praise his holy name! With all my heart I praise the Lord! I will never forget how kind he has been. The Lord forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and protects us from death. His kindness and love are a crown on our heads. Each day that we live, he provides for our needs and gives us the strength of a young eagle. [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 103:8-12) The Lord is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails. The Lord won’t always be angry and point out our sins; he doesn’t punish us as our sins deserve. How great is God’s love for all who worship him? Greater than the distance between heaven and earth! How far has the Lord taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from east to west! [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 103:17-22) The Lord is always kind to those who worship him, and he keeps his promises to their descendants who faithfully obey him. God has set up his kingdom in heaven, and he rules the whole creation. All of you mighty angels, who obey God’s commands, come, and praise our Lord! All you thousands who serve and obey God, come, and praise your Lord! All of God’s creation and all that he rules, come, and praise your Lord! [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 145:1-7) I will praise You, my God and King, and always honor your name. I will praise You each day and always honor Your name. You are wonderful, Lord, and you deserve all praise, because You are much greater than anyone can understand. Each generation will announce to the next Your wonderful and powerful deeds. I will keep thinking about Your marvelous glory and Your mighty miracles. Everyone will talk about Your fearsome deeds, and I will tell all nations how great You are. They will celebrate and sing about Your matchless mercy and Your power to save. [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 145:8-13) You are merciful, Lord! You are kind and patient and always loving. You are good to everyone, and you take care of all Your creation. All creation will thank You, and Your loyal people will praise You. They will tell about Your marvelous kingdom and Your power. Then everyone will know about the mighty things You do and Your glorious kingdom. Your kingdom will never end, and You will rule forever. [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 145:14-19) Our Lord, You keep Your word and do everything You say. When someone stumbles or falls, You give a helping hand. Everyone depends on You, and when the time is right, You provide them with food. By Your own hand You satisfy the desires of all who live. Our Lord, everything You do is kind and thoughtful, and You are near to everyone whose prayers are sincere. You satisfy the desires of all Your worshipers, and You come to save them when they ask for help. [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

[℣] (Psalm 112:1-4,7) Shout praises to the Lord! The Lord blesses everyone who worships him and gladly obeys his teachings. Their descendants will have great power in the land because the Lord blesses all who do right. They will get rich and prosper and will always be remembered for their fairness. They will be so kind, merciful, and good, that they will be a light in the dark for others who do the right thing. Bad news won’t bother them; they have decided to trust the Lord. [℟] (Psalm 136:1) Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

As Jesus was setting out from Jericho, Bartimaeus a blind man, sat begging beside the road. And when he had heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” And many admonished him to be quiet. But he cried out even more, “Son of David, have mercy on me.” Jesus, stood still, instructed him to be called. And they called the blind man. Casting aside his garment, he leapt up and went to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want, me to do for you?” And the blind man said, “Master, that I may see.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has made you whole.” And immediately he was able to see, and followed Jesus on the road.

"O God be merciful to me a sinner"

Scripture Reflection—Luke 18:9-14

Jesus told this parable: “Two men ascended to the temple, to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector. Standing, the Pharisee prayed within himself in this way: ‘O God, I give thanks to you that I am not like the rest of men: robbers, unjust, adulterers, even as this tax collector chooses to be. I fast twice between Sabbaths. I give tithes from all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing at a distance, was not willing to even lift up his eyes to heaven. But he struck his chest, saying: ‘O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’ I say to you, this one went to his house justified, but not the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

CLOSING PRAYER FROM PSALM 86:1-7

[℣] Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am holy. You are my God. Save Your servant who trusts in You! Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I cry to You all day long. [℟] Rejoice the soul of Your servant; for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul; for You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me.

PRAYER FOR SOULS IN PURGATORY

Jesus Christ has given you to his people as the powerful protection to shield and save sinners who fly to you. O Lady, our marvelous refuge, we recall your sweet protections and beg Jesus Christ forever for His mercy. Amen.

[℣] May the divine assistance remain always with us, [℟] and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
