Showers of Blessing

(Petition Prayer)

PRAYING FOR ONE’S OWN NEEDS

Your petition should reflect your desperation, humility, and trust in God. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you so that you can go deep within yourself and bring out clearly all that you need from God. Your prayer should express:

  • Your relationship with God.
  • A clear statement of what you want God to do for you.
  • Your trust in God.
  • That you acknowledge God will answer your prayer (read Mark 11:24).
  • Sincere repentance for your sins.
  • Your openness to forgive others who have offended you.
  •

Take your time to compose the prayer. Write it down. Refine it as you go along if you get inspired to do so. And say it with child-like simplicity.

Holy Trinity, One God: YOU created this universe with all its splendor, and YOU formed me, this wonderous thing, in my mother’s womb. My doctors say that I have breast cancer. I am fearful of what the doctors say but I have faith only in YOU that YOU will heed my prayer and remove all obstructions, growths, maladies, known and unknown diseases, infections, and unnatural desires from my body. I believe that by this prayer I am completely healed.

I thank YOU God the Father! I thank YOU God the Son! I thank YOU God the Holy Spirit! I thank You for healing me! Thank YOU for your showers of blessing!

Now I realize that by my sin and ignorance I have distanced myself from YOUR powerful love and protection. With a repentant heart I ask for the forgiveness of all my sins because they offend you. And I am fully willing to forgive all who have caused me grief, bitterness, and anguish. Right now, at this very moment, I completely forgive <name> for all the hurt she caused me. <name> I forgive you sincerely. [Name people one by one and forgive them].

I ask this in the Holy Name of my Savior Jesus, along with the intersession of my Blessed Mother, and all the holy saints and angels. Amen.

(Keeping this prayer as an example, compose a spontaneous prayer according to your health issue. Talk to God from deep within. Write it down and say it every day. May our Loving God, shower his blessing upon you.)

Holy Trinity, One Merciful and Loving God: sweet hope of our souls. Today I come before YOU with a broken heart, as I mourn the death of my dearest <relationship> <name>. Lord God, who is abundant in mercy forgive <her/his> sins and receive <her/him> into Heaven to be in YOUR glorious presence for eternity. O what comfort my mourning heart receives to believe that my beloved <name> is in Heaven.

Lord of Mercy and Compassion, I thank YOU for hearing my prayer. I ask YOU, please, through <her/his> intercession, to deepen my faith, strengthen my hope and increase my love that I, too, may someday stand before YOU, ready to enter YOUR Holy Kingdom. I ask this in the Holy Name of my Savior Jesus, along with the intersession of my Blessed Mother, and all the holy saints and angels. Amen.

(Keeping this prayer as an example, compose a spontaneous prayer according to your feelings on losing a loved one. Talk to God from deep within. Write it down and say it every day. Most of us will never know where the departed soul has gone: Heaven or Purgatory. Though we place our hope for Heaven we must pray for the soul in Purgatory. May our Loving God, shower his blessing upon you and your family.)

O Loving God, YOUR generosity knows no bound. YOU gave me this wonderful gift of life and always provided for all my needs. YOU know me better than I know myself. YOU know that I am in a desperate financial situation. I am fearful for my future, but God I trust in YOU only. I trust that you will listen to my prayer and send the urgently required financial relief to take care of my needs*.

I thank YOU God the Father! I thank YOU God the Son! I thank YOU God the Holy Spirit! I thank YOU for healing my financial distress! Thank you for the showers of blessing!

Now I realize that by my sin and ignorance I have distanced myself from YOUR powerful love and protection. With a repentant heart I ask for the forgiveness of all my sins because they offend YOU. And I am fully willing to forgive all who have caused me bitterness, loss, and anguish. Right now, at this very moment, I completely forgive <name> for all the hurt he caused me. <name> I forgive you sincerely. [Name people one by one and forgive them].

I ask this in the Holy Name of my Savior Jesus, along with the intersession of my Blessed Mother, and all the holy saints and angels. Amen.

* Try being specific here about the nature of your problem and the relief you need. You lost your job, you are in debt, you lost money in business, you were cheated etc.

Holy Trinity One Loving Merciful God, we thank YOU for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience YOUR presence in the sacraments.

Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for YOUR people.

Grant them the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of YOUR Kingdom.

Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of YOUR divine grace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen.
